>I haven't heard FSOL's 'Lifeforms' & 'Cascade' EP's - can anyone give me a
quick review? I guess what I'm most really interested in is whether the
tracks which are listed as 'Parts 1-5' or 'Path 1-7' are just remixes of the
album versions, or are they new tracks? Are these different tracks seperate
or mixed together etc? Are these two EP's worth getting?
I didn't see any RE:'s to this post, so I guess I'll give you the gist of it.
Both EP's do have _some_ tracks which are off the album, but for the most
part the selections are worthy stand-alone FSOL tracks. "Cascade" doesn't
really have any that were exactly copied from "Lifeforms." Part 1 is sort of
an extended version of the Cascade from the album, shortform is a remix, and
Part 3 is Elaborate Burn ("Lifeforms" Track 18) only longer. Basically, all
the stuff taken from "Lifeforms" is better on this EP, and the other stuff
isn't just fill.
The Lifeforms EP has a couple of tracks from the album: Path 3 is basically
the album track (6) note for note, and Path 5 is an extended version of the
vocal part of Life Form Ends (Track 14). Liz Fraser's vocals, on most of the
rest of the tracks, in tandem with FSOL's music are what makes this EP worth
buying.
It depends on how much they're going for down there, but basically, if you
don't have the EP's, you're missing something. The Lifeforms EP should be your
top priority, but they're both worth adding to your collection. I haven't said
much about the tracks that DON'T appear in some form or another on the album
because a) I'm not much of a reviewer and b) I don't want to spoil it for you!
Suffice it to say, it's FSOL, and each EP has a good half-hour or so of
original stuff from them.
Enjoy!
