VERT - Broken Breakbeat BeBop - Bovinyl 12" (BOVE 002)
-cherry phosphate
-hole tone lava
-slack chair puller
-guacamloe blues
-standing on the verge of falling off
(all tracks written by Adam Butler)
Jump this train NOW - before Vert records become insanely overpriced collectors'
items. I hate to use the "T.J." or "L.V." words... but this is the most
fucked-up record since "Visible Crater Funk!"
Broken jazz licks, messy elektro breaks, slammin' D&B breaks - EVERYTHING on
this EP 'breaks'! But we'd better hope that Butler doesn't decide to fix it! BBB
is so exciting - unpredictable - ingenious! Remember those words? That's how
some of our faves were once described, before they fell into 'let's recycle this
sound which everyone liked the first time around' ruts. It's safe to say that
nothing on this Vert record has been heard before. Similar to Jega, actually -
if that guy was less enamored of RDJ's "Donkey Rhubarb" ... The jazz
sensibilities sound pure - the bass here would blow the speakers at any
soundsystem - the breaks are more thrilling than anything Mr. T-overhyped-Power
has produced in ages.
Okay - I can't hold back. What if Jenkinson had written _Throbbing Pouch_...
Buy it - buy it - buy it!
