I'm glad I listened to this one at the store, rather than just buying it out of reflex (ha HA ha). A lot of noodling around that's too much weirdness and almost no trace at all of melody. What few tracks I listened to had very little structure as well. I guess it's experimental and all that, but there was too little sweetness to make me shell out for it. Same with the new Neotropic LP on NTone - very cool beats, but very thin on the melody side. Howie B's new EP is quite nice, much more beatier than his overly ambient album, reminding me a lot of the Pussyfoot comp tracks. "Birth" still tops my list of Howie B creations though. New Likemind (04) 12" is excellent stuff, especially for Black Dog fans. The two Nuron tracks are familiar-sounding yet superb Doggy electronica. Also saw: a comp from Octopus, the label that released the beloved Kushti 12" a year or two ago. Didn't get it, but it did have a Kushti track I hadn't seen before. Kushti by the way have a new one out soon, "Lifers" I think. Sucks to wake up late on a Saturday to find out the new DJ Shadow album is sold out everywhere :( On now:: Howie B: Butt Meat James Jung-Hoon Seo // Oracle New Media (415) 506-3829 // jseo@us.oracle.com My whole thing is to take completely retarded songs and turn them into something of my own.
