Last week I received an 12" from Moon Madness-Quito/Azow/Dynia on Tova Records. A-side, Quizo, starts with a Snap-like beat (shock!) but soon becomes a groovy track with funky beats and lovely synths wich reminds me of Autechre. On the other side it's much more Autechre-like pleasures. I really don't mind the track Azow sounding like any track on Autechre's Amber. Does anybody know Moon Madness or the label Tova Records?? Next suprise came with a new thing on Apollo from Small Fish With Spine called The Hilltop Ep. Recommended.. A lovely four track 12" with jazzy breaks, 303 things and Orb sampling on Frostbyte and some drum 'n bass rythms on Smart Fish. Small Fish With Spine is some Riz Maslen. Anybody knows who he is?? BTW What's happening at R&S. Their homepage is not been updated since april/may this year and they didn't answer any of my e-mails. Was it a short experience on the net for the belgium label? Nico

Riz Maslen is actually a SHE - AKA: Neotropic. Debut full-length (_15 Level of Magnification_) just out this week on NTone/Ninja Tune. Previous 12"s (_Tumble Weeds_, _Laundrophonic_) were pretty incredible. g-man II - onagain: RA-X. Well, duh!

Riz is a she, actually. Check out the "stickleback" and "i hate your remixes" 12"s on oxygen music works for more excellent SFwS stuff. She is apparently pally with FSOL and Coldcut. Riz is also responsible for the most excellent Neotropic releases on N Tone (Ninja Tune). Look for domestic release of new record next month...15 Levels of Magnification (hint hint, nudge nudge, more news to follow). Wig
