speaking of, has anyone heard the directions 12-inch on soul static? is it anything like the full-length _directions music_, imho one of the best releases of last year and ages better than that tortoise record that got so much attention... thanks, sc onnow: melvins : honky (amrep...hey, there's an electro track on here!)

I've not heard the 12" (though it should be headed my way soon), but I agree with the above on the DiM full length. Not only musically "stacked" but, for some reason, I've been much taken with the photographs on the cover. Best "photography as art" ;) photos I've seen on an album cover since some Live Skull lp of *many* years ago... The recent Lou Ciccotelli (the other bloke from Ice and the percussionist in Laika) soul static sound 12" is quite nice - very organic and dubby and tortoisey (though it doesn't really seem to go anywhere... hmmm...). Actually, does anyone know anything of the soul static sound people? They seem to have released a good deal of stuff I quite like (Tortoise, Ui, DiM, The Sea and Cake, etc... [and some stuff I don't - like that meandering Scanner 7"]) and, beyond a connection with Lissy's, I know nothing else. Rubyjune.
