Is this a new cd? I have two Cex cds which i very much enjoy called "Cells" on his own Underscore label and "These Tracks Need A Good Home, Don't You Think?" which I'm not sure on the label. Cex also did a nice 7" with Colongib on their own Shift-Minus label. Eager for some more Cex, but arent we all! : ) -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

that's funny, because i just got a marumari cd in the mail that is very good... (taken from www.tigerbeat6.com/cex) "A couple of weeks ago I bought the new Marumari album, Ballad of the Round Ball (crpk cd2) at the local record store because I rarely find any underground electronic stuff at all at the local record store and I also rarely buy new cds, so I thought it would be an appropriate and acceptable indulgence. And I am very glad I did, because Ballad is tight. Marumari pays close attention to the "sonics" of his tracks, and weaves catchy, sometimes dreamy melodies around intricately textured pads and regular & rhythmic beats. He composes very musically - there isn't the standard "techno" formula of making a beat, adding one synth line, adding another, breakdown, etc - while the tracks flows continuously and seamlessly from beginning to end, Marumari brings in and out different instruments playing different lines, there's almost no "looping" going on. But the sound is very raw. he makes some sounds clip and overload at points, reverses whole phrases, and gives his beats a nice swing. Nothing feels too quantized and Marumari is obviously a real musician and not just a programmer. Since I bought the disc I contacted Josh Marumari and chatted with him and we exchanged cd-rs of new stuff. He sent me a copy of his new album, due out on Carpark in the Spring (I think) and oh my god, this thing is amazing. It totally continues on the same original sound -- melodic, laid back, and upbeat tunes -- but where Ballad gets a lot of charm from the raw, bedroom production sound, the new disc has a tight, shiny production and more emotion which convinces me that Marumari could make tracks for the radio that would make everyone who heard them a lot smarter. Some excellent tracks here using guitars and what sounds like beats sampled from real drum kits... this disc is even more accessible than the first, I can see people referencing Mouse on Mars to describe the sound, but mostly because Marumari makes everything sound so fluid and alive and sonically complex in his tracks. This is definitely a guy to watch, because not only is his music great and is he prolific as all hell, but he's on a very upwardly mobile label, Carpark. Carpark is a very new and totally independent label, but they've already got national distribution, have had Marumari played on MTV and have their releases noticed by national magazines like the Urb. So watch these guys, they are definitely going places." seeya cex --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
