Guess who's the lucky bastard!!! Yesterday I got "Boy/Girl" promo CDS and "Richard D James LP" promo CD. I won't review it, but I can reveal that it's more of the afx-jungle like on the Bulb EP's. If you can get past the nearly universal (and IMHO unwarranted) disgust with "Expert Knob Twiddlers" you can hear him sing on a couple of cuts there. Fred Schneider? Nah. It's fairly obvious that they were sampling themselves in the studio -- it's either mike or rich singing into a crap microphone. Though the programming has much in common with the HAB EP, it is not jungle by any means. It contains much of the same frantic chopped-up madness but somehow comes across as a lot more "serious" work than HAB. And yes, its brilliant. As for the influence of his friends, Richard has stated more than once that Luke Vibert is the only person thats had any real influence on him in the last few years.. :: Alan M.
