Well I was hitting the 'd' key on the woodenspoon posts last week, but it came in friday, so I grabbed it on faith... It is mmmm...tasty! I went in knowing it was a Mark Clifford joint, and given that it's unmistakably his product. He has a way with sounds that I find highly original. As near as I can tell, he's taken the Akai sampler torture of the junglist one step further -- a lot of the sounds seem to be very short (10 millescond) chunks of other samples looped, and then filtered, and then resampled. There's a cut on 'Looking for Snags' that this disk recalls -- the one with the stuttering metallic sounding percussion. You've heard of 'intelligent' jungle, 'ambient' jungle. This stuff can only be termed 'Abstract Expressionist' jungle. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Other people are NOT merely the comfy pillows on the couch of your life. Well, I picked up a coupla new CDs the other day and I thought I would waste a bit of time giving a short opinion on each... Mike & Rich "Expert Knob Twiddlers" Please file under "Distorted Clown Music" Well....I can't say I'm too surprised at the content of this CD. I mean, what do you expect from the two biggest goofballs in idm? Actually, this ain't too bad, just as long as you possess a (minimal) sense of humor...I actually enjoy it! Mike Flowers Pops meets Aphex Twin etc. Please file under "Horrifying 70's Musak" The first thing I thought when I heard the accursed first track off this single was "What the hell? Is this from the soundtrack to Barberella?!!!" The remixes are pretty good, although in the hackneyed 70's aura influenced hip-hoppity junglesque tip. The Aphex trak sounds like it would have been right at home on Hangable Auto Bulb. Extra kudos to the Slang trak. Single Cell Orchestra -self titled Please file under "Bliss" Oh my god...this is probably in my top ten albums of all time. Damn good music. Dreamy synth washes through a mellow analougue cloud floating about an eletroesque breakbeat...perfect. Any other CDs from this guy? (besides Dead Vent 7) khannan suntharam kxs28972@bayou.uh.edu

If I recall correctly, the collaboration album, "Freaky Chakra vs. Single Cell Orchestra" will be out in North America on Astralwerks records in October. Yeah, it's suppose to be out soon. The Single Cell Orchestra side is very different from the material released on his latest cd. Everyone that hears it thinks its the bomb, buy it as soon as it comes out! Cheers B i l l S a m u e l s w l s @ U . A r i z o n a . E D U
