soul oddity "tone capsule" (astralwerks) ________________________________ 1 mezzo modulator 2 welcome back to earth 3 little alien 4 people party 5 freq shift 6 clipped 7 soul communication 8 dj tokyo 9 cruxx 10 fugue keep your eye out for this release, which is not supposed to be out until may 21. had elektroids been in a much funkier mood, they might have given us a full-length with as much bleepy, machine-driven, electronic funk madness as this. there's a little trance, a little electro, a little kraftwerk, some clever samples, lots of stuttering funky rhythms, and very little melody. it works for me. egg

If you like this, you'll probably like the Soul Odyssey 12" on Space Records as well, since Soul Oddity's Josh Kay was sort of half of Soul Odyssey. Oaklawn Records should have some at 214-521-0350, and they do mail order.

Ditto in my book. I haven't heard the Jeswa stuff, didn't even know it was affiliated with Soul Oddity, so I have no comment there (is it good?). In regards to the Tone Capsule EP's on Astralwerks, they're available as individual 12"s or in a single package as a vinyl "album." The third EP has a vinyl-only track called "Chrome Ozone" which is in my opinion one of the better cuts on all 3 EP's. While unavailable on the CD full-length of Tone Capsule, that track is also listed on the Astralwerks CD comp, I think it's called "Werks Like a 12". They can be really bleepy and silly at times, leaning towards more of a DMX than an IDM electro feel. But overall it's pretty quirky and has its moments. I'm not usually too hip on Astralwerks but I dug this - Brock Thanx to Lance, Teep, and Aaron for the help re: IT. Ordered From Beyond Vols. 1-2 the other day from Bent Crayon solely on your recommendations and advice. Looking forward to hearing it.

as you probably heard robert mention in an unrelated post, that's by Romulo Del Castillo & Josh Kay. Aka Phoenecia, Metic, and so on.. Owners of the brilliant miami label, Schematic. If you like the soul oddity stuff, you'll LOVE the schematic material, as it's about 100x better- a quick discography:: Soul Oddity: Tone Capsule 1 12" (Astralwerks) Soul Oddity: Tone Capsule 2 12" (Astralwerks) Soul Oddity: Tone Capsule 3 12" (Astralwerks) Soul Oddity: Tone Capsule CD [compiles all 3 12" minus 1 track, which is the one on the _werks_ compilation you have] 12" (Astralwerks) Metic: Matrix Blaster 12"(Schematic SCH001) Takeshi: Flipped & Squashed 12"(Schematic SCH002) Jewsa: Skone 12"(Schematic SCH004) Phoenecia: Randa Roomet 2x12"/CDEP (Warp wap098) Metic: Sixto Novation 12" (Schematic SCH005) Soul Oddity: 'Chrome Ozone' on _werks like a 12"_ (Astralwerks) Phoenecia: 'roba' on _From Beyond Vol. 2_ (Interdimesional Transmissions) Phoenecia: 'roba [live]' on _From Beyond CD_ (Interdimesional Transmissions) coming soon:: Phoenecia remix on PrimeDeep 02 (due:6/15) Phoenecia & Takeshi Remixes on _ischemic strokes pt.1_ (Schematics sch007) takeshi muto: swollen glance pt.1 12" (schematic sch 008) Soul Oddity Remix on _ischemic strokes pt.2_ (Schematics sch010) and as Robert said::
