A summary of my thoughts on the Universal Language releases:
*Secret Ingredients - New York New York
Brilliant dancefloor tune, excellent tough house flavour.
*Wishmountain - Radio
Excellent stuff from Matt Herbert, as per usual.
*Jedi Knights - New School Science
I like it - fun, quirky and listenable.
*The Horn - Villager
Hmm. Last track's OK, the rest doesn't do a lot for me.
*Jak & Stepper - Bad Shit Tribute
Title track has quite a nice groove, and like the Secret Ingredients
track is very floor-oriented. The flip starts well but really goes
nowhere.
*Secret Ingredients - Chicago Chicago
Haven't seen/heard it yet. Opinions?
Overall they're putting out some very good stuff, but not quite
reaching the heights of the earlier material. Certainly not quite the
level of quality control I would expect from Pritchard and Middleton...
And as for the Plug stuff - I love it! Amazing beat programming, top
warped jazz madness. In fact I'm a massive fan of all of Vibert's work,
I think he's one of the most individual and original composers around...
Other records: Just got the new double promo of Photek's 'Hidden
Camera' EP. Absolutely superb, literally miles ahead of the ART release.
And Squarepusher's 'Theme' on Rephlex is sitting in my bag in the shop
waiting to be collected. I'll write some proper reviews soon if I can
find the time...
see ya
