[ from my original post to the zombies list ] this was a pretty rockin show, although the club was really empty (emptiest i've ever seen it). first, daum & miguel gave us an hour of fine techno as Freaky Chakra vs Single Cell Orchestra. yummy. jack & crew came on and did a stellar set, much more freeform and experimental than i've ever seen them. in fact, i'd say it's the best show i've seen since the original storm the studio tour (which was so good i had to see it twice). anyway, it was large, it was exciting, and here's some of the songs i recognized (in no particular order)... edge of no control original control god o.d. helter skelter radio babylon she's unreal transmission asbestos lead asbestos at first i was a bit put off to see a sax on stage but the guy playing it used to it to great effect. he also did some cool stuff like running vocals through his guitar pickup... after the show proper, the band left the stage, the DJ put on a horrible cheese-muzak version of "born to be wild", and most of the audience left. bad move cos 5 mins later jack & crew returned for a wild improvised jam session. it was quite excellent even though there were some rough spots - but hey, that's what live music's all about. of course the big thrill for me was that since my buddies were opening, i got to go backstage and hang with the band. i only talked to jack for a few minutes, but i told him about this list and gave him my card. i told him i'd give him a free account if he wanted to get on the internet and he said that's something he's been interested in for a while but just hasn't had time. we'll see what happens. i also talked to mark pistel for a bit since he's friends with one of the people i went to the show with. he had just brought in some synths to use on stage during the ad lib part of the show so he revealed some of the geekier aspects of jack's music setup to me. jack has an amazing collection of old 'n' rare synths and he brought only a small fraction of them with him. i noted an Arp 2600, VP330 vocoder keyboard and Minimoog, but I'm sure there were more... -- Name: Jon Email: jsd@cyborganic.com Web: http://www.cyborganic.com/bass-kittens/
