So, what about them? Heard an EP of theirs... very freaky, very beaty and at times a homage to the great dubbed kung-fu films of the 60s (70s?). Would be interested to know (If anyone does) first if they qualify for discussion here, and second, who are these guys and what's their bag? Hope this gets those gears a-turning... Elmer --x--

As someone's already pointed out, it's J. Saul Kane, and the sound's absolutely delicious. I've only gotten my hands on the Legend of the Golden Snake EP, but it won't be leaving me any time soon. Enough bass to knot your stomach and make your arse move in mysterious ways. He spins in London fairly frequently (next time is Feb 11); anyone had the opportunity to see him and have any feedback? I missed seeing him in favor of a surreal warehouse party in October (utter daftness on my part). I heard him spin in SF a couple months back. The mixing was spotty and a little disapointing, but he had some *excellent* records. Andy

Depth Charge is the product of the musically demented mind of J. Saul Kane. I believe he released a string of 12"s a few years ago on vinyl solution leading up to a full length (2xCD/4xLP) last year called "5 Deadly Venoms." More recently J Saul Kane released an outstanding electro-techno project under the name The Octagon Man. The name of the full length is "The Exciting World of..." and there is also an ep called "Teasing the Dragon's Tail." I recommend all the releases by J Saul Kane. Hope that helps! -->-Lance--- mclance@en.com

Don't forget Eon, on Vinyl Solution/Columbia with the 1991 club/rave/whatever anthem "The Spice". Delicious stuff. Andrew -- Andrew Bennett abennett@hyperreal.com, abennett@cruzio.com http://taz.hyperreal.com/~abennett/

not 5. 9 isn't it? or 7? Hell I can't remember but it ain't 5. and Andrew Bennett wrote on Thu, 01 Feb 96 03:24:02 GMT :

Eon is principally Ian B. (I think his surname is Bela) but J.Saul Kane was involved because he was actually running Vinyl Solution, am I right? Those Eon trax (Spice, Basket Case et al) are wicked. My fave sample is "that thing in the cellar is NOT my mother" - Evil Dead II. Full marks to Depth Charge (and none to me, disqualification for trainspottiness), Rob.

there was also a depth charge track on TEEX4 (with a pretty good J. Saul Kane writeup elucidating on the fascination with martial arts films) and an Octagon Man electro track on the bonus 4 tracker with TEEX4. peeeeeeeece, Jeff Davis <pHlow> ____--~~~~~~vvvv~~~~ oooooo 812.831.7846 jjdavis@xnet.com____---- ( ( ( vvvv ~~~~~~ooooooooooooo ___----( ( \ \ \ \ \ vvv oooooooooooooooooooooooooo ____---- ( \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ http://www.xnet.com/~jjdavis/
