I hear Thrill Jockey is set to release Mouse on Mars _Niun Niggung_ domestic (to those of us in NA). Since they (Thrill Jockey) kind of disappeared off (my) radar after DJ Takemura, anybody know what their release schedule looks like? I hope they haven't crawled back to a post-rock emphasis .... and I hope I like this Mouse on Mars album; after the first two they kind of got, umm ... boring (but then again, I don't have _Glam_ - anybody wanna convince me it's worth my $9?). http://www.thrilljockey.com/new.html will tell you what the label is up to - looks like plenty of that icky post-rock (and even some plain old-fashioned rock) is still very much on the agenda. Also 8 Bold Souls which is reported to be an AACM-styled avant-garde jazz octet. With Mouse on Mars, I skipped straight from _Vulvaland_ to _Autoditacker_, so my opinion is the opposite of yours - I think they've been improving as they go along. I thought _Vulvaland_ was enjoyable but a little lacking in personality and by _Autoditacker_ they'd really developed their own sound. If you agree with that assessment, you'll certainly like _Niun Niggung_. Trainspotters and completists may or may not be pleased to know that the US release (slated for Feb. 8 release) differs from the European one by three tracks. 8BS is the small group (well, compared to the Shadow Vignettes) project of Ed Wilkerson, who teaches composition at the AACM. I dunno, something about the phrase "AACM-styled avant-garde jazz octet on Thrill Jockey" conjures up the same imagery as "Berkelee-schooled musician" (no offense to any listmembers or Juliana fucking Hatfield). -rob --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
