^^^^^^^^^^^^^^that is very funny. i've been told that Autechre is short for>>>>AUdio TECHnology REdefined. so it would follow that it'd be said>>>> aw-tek-ree. but that doesn't sound so good. so i usually carry one of their cd's with me where ever i go and just point at it when refering to the band.

That was due to the Future Music article where the FM writer 'cleverly' used the word Autechre to make up their own, rather weak, article headline. Unless of course, that actually *is* what it stands for - in which case I'm going to look a complete prick. OnNow: my PCs' fan || [CiM] || s.walley@uea.ac.uk || http://www.sys.uea.ac.uk/~u9323899/

The guys at the record store say 'Aw-teh-ker' accent on the first syllable, but hell, I'm in Iowa. We say Dayum for Dam ... When I read it first I tried to pronounce it as a french word, which would make it 'Oh-teh-shray'. I think they chose it to confuse people. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Home Page: http://I.m.too.dumb.to.hack.html/~kent Kent Williams kent@inav.net (319) 338 6053 (home) (319) 626 6700 x 219 (work) (319) 626 3489 (fax)

Audio Technology Redefined? Audio Technical Research? Please tell me you're joking. Not that the subject of the origin of their name interests me, but I could have sworn they said in their SECONDS interview, that they used that word as a name for a sound on their keyboard. Or a patch or whatever samples are called...... Surprised that Audiences Technically Refried's "Tri Repetae" cd won release of the year. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ''J''O''H''N'''''''R''I''C''K''M''A''N'''''''''''''''''''''''' jknee@gwis2.circ.gwu.edu On Thu, 18 Jan 1996, Dexter HAFRO wrote:

I remember reading in an interview (forget where, but back when Incunabula came out) that they chose the name becuase they just liked how it sounded. Too bad not everyone knows how it sounds. I believe they also said it was pronounced "Ah-tek-er". At least that's what everyone seems to say, as it seems to be a somewhat frequent topic. And, I'm not at all surprised it won release of the year. I was quite mesmerized by it (and still am). _ _ _________________________ paul23@primenet.com _ rseymour@artcenter.edu _ r pauL seymour http://www.primenet.com/~paul23/index.html _ _
