(idm) IDM POLL 1995 RESULTS
permalink · <memo.501662@cix.compulink.co.uk>
First off, thanks go to all who voted. I only just missed my target of 100 replies so people have responded pretty well this year. The results follow below, hope you find them interesting reading. Anyone missing new releases at this time of year could do worse than filling any gaps in their collections from the winners below. If you have Web access I suggest it will be much easier to point your browsers at www.compulink.co.uk/~proton/idm95.html where the full results are currently located. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ IDM ALBUM OF THE YEAR 1995 Here are the results of the IDM Album Of The Year 1995. Autechre take the honours in a close battle with Aphex. Mike Paradinas notches up 3 albums in the top ten showing that quantity can also provide quality. T-Power's jungle crossover polled particularly well for a newcomer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1 Autechre Tri Repetae Warp 2 Aphex Twin I Care Because You Do Warp 3 Jake Slazenger Makesaracket Clear 4 Black Dog Spanners Warp 5 Wagon Christ Throbbing Pouch Rising High 6 Kid Spatula Spatula Freak Reflective 7= Speedy J G-Spot Warp 7= ?-Ziq In Pine Effect Planet ? 9 Locust Truth Is Born Of Arguments Apollo 10= T-Power Self Evident Truth SOUR 10= Chemical Brothers Exit Planet Dust JBO 12= Goldie Timeless FFRR 12= Model 500 Deep Space R&S 12= Richard H Kirk Number Of Magic Warp 15= A Guy Called Gerald Black Secret Technology 15= Ken Ishii Jelly Tones R&S 15= Mouse On Mars Iahora Tahiti Too Pure 15= Nightmares On Wax Smokers Delight Warp 15= Orb Orbus Terraum Island 20= Air Liquide Red 20= Atom Heart Silver Sound 60 RI 20= Banco De Gaia Last Train To Lhasa Planet Dog 20= Dave Angel Tales Of The Unexpected Blunted 20= FSOL ISDN (reissue) Virgin 20= Seefeel Succour Warp 20= Stasis Inspiration Peacefrog 20= Vulva From The Cockpit Rephlex ------------------------------------------------------------------------ IDM SINGLE/EP OF THE YEAR 1995 Here are the results of the IDM Single/EP Of The Year 1995. Very close polling in this category with the top places separated by only a few votes. Plaid came out top with their Clear EP. Autechre again perform well with two top ten finishes plus the Gescom offshoot. Luke Vibert scatters the chart under various monikers with the Plug releases surely suffering from lack of availability. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1 Plaid EP Clear 2 Autechre Anvil Vapre Warp 3= ?-Ziq Salsa With Mesquite Planet Mu 3= Link Antacid Warp 5= Aphex Twin Donkey Rhubarb Warp 5= Orbital Times Fly Internal 7= Autechre Garbage Warp 7= Gescom The Sound Of Machines... Votes for the Black Dog retrospective 'Parallel' were transferred to the compilation category and this tied for honours with the Macro Dub Infection double pack. Coldcut's excellent showcase for their radio show polled well for third place. Theory Of Evolution seems to have dissapointed. A surprisingly poor result for 'Further Self Evident Truths' may be more due to the collapse of Rising High than the quality of the release. Low Recordings Vol 2 maybe missed the boat by being released too late in the year. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1= Black Dog Parallel GPR 1= Macro Dub Infection Virgin 3 Coldcut Journey By DJ JDJ 4= Apollo 2 Apollo 4= Basic Channel Compilation B.Channel 6= Equanimity GPR 6= TEEX4 Volume 6= The Theory Of Evolution Warp 9= Extreme Possibilities Vol 1 Lo Recs. 9= Freezone 2 SSR 9= Trance Atlantic 1 Volume 12= Ambient Cookbook Fax 12= Aphex Twin Classics Warp 12= Artcore React 12= Dark Hearts 1 Harthouse 12= Excursions In Ambience 4 Astralwerks 12= Further Self Evident Truths Rising High 12= Interference Live At Love Parade 12= Submerge Depth Charge 3 Submerge ------------------------------------------------------------------------ IDM CHILL OUT ALBUM OF THE YEAR 1995 Here are the results of the IDM Chill Out Album Of The Year 1995. Extremely diverse voting in this section but a return to form for the Orb sees them take first place. Sun Electric's live recording was not too far behind. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1 Orb Orbus Terrarum Island 2 Sun Electric 30.7.94 Apollo 3= Nightmares On Wax Smokers Delight Warp 3= Wagon Christ Throbbing Pouch Rising High 5= Banco De Gaia Last Train To Lhasa Planet Dog 5= Gregory Fleckner Quartet Monkey Boots Clear 5= Hawtin & Namlook From Within 2 Fax 5= Namlook Seasons Greetings:Summer FAX 5= Skylab #1 L'Attitude 5= Speedy J G-Spot Warp 5= Tetsu Inoue Slow & Low FAX 5= Walker & Lustmord Stalker ------------------------------------------------------------------------ IDM LABEL OF THE YEAR 1995 Here are the results of the IDM Label Of The Year 1995. Warp won this by a country mile with almost 50% of the vote. Clear seemingly lived up to the hype and were a deserved second. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1 Warp 2 Clear 3= R&S 3= Rephlex 5= Axis 5= Eevo-lute 5= GPR 5= Metalheadz 5= Ninja Tune 5= Rather Interesting 5= Reflective ------------------------------------------------------------------------ IDM ARTIST OF THE YEAR 1995 Here are the results of the IDM Artist Of The Year 1995. Very tight between the top three but Mike Paradinas wins probably through the quantity (and quality) of his work through the year. A pleasing result for Luke Vibert who certainly had a diverse and magic touch in 1995. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1 Mike Paradinas 2 Autechre/Gescom 3 Luke Vibert 4 Richard James 5 Black Dog/Plaid 6= Atom Heart 6= Richard H Kirk 8= Chemical Brothers 8= J Saul Kane 8= Speedy J ------------------------------------------------------------------------ IDM TIPS FOR 96 Here are the results of the IDM Poll Tips For 96. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The new name most tipped is Freeform. The excellent debut LP 'Elastic Speakers' and SKAM EP seem to have impressed. An equal number of pollsters recommended LFO to return in fine shape with the oft delayed 'Advance'. Old names tipped to continue to impress include Plaid, Richard James, Luke Vibert and the mighty Autechre. Newer names expected to shine are Bochum Welt, T-Power and Kismat Biswas (Bedouin Ascent). Labels named include Clear (again), Ersatz Audio, Lo Recordings, Bunker and Kromode. Of course the IDM Threads LP is bound to be a winner. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The web version includes other nominations which would have made this posting really quite large. Many thanks to Jon and to all those who entered for an excellent job. The lucky person who will receive a copy of the idm Threads compilation is jjdavis@xnet.com (Jeff Davies, Evansville, Indiana). I hope to overhaul the idm pages in the next few weeks and the full poll results will be available there, as well as the list archives which (I hope) will be updated daily throughout the year.
