This tour doesn't seem to have been publicised all that widely, but
I saw a flyer in Pelican Neck.
I'd long been curious about the two acts but had never properly
investigated.
The crowd was a curious one: lots of the usual musical suspects, but
joined by the Manchester Art Mafia, probably because it took place in a
theatre.
The visuals for Ikeda's segment were by Dumb Type and although
criticised by some as not very innovative, I thought they complemented
the music very well. The first tune, which had elements of his
Headphonics, had the visuals of a hyperactive oscilloscope-cum-radar
screen, with occasional strobings for the noise outbursts.
None of the others were as good but the whole experience was
marvellously cathartic. Someone I know there said Ikeda's music made
her "physically ill"...
ZF were good, too: I was surprised how loud and clangorous some of it
was, having heard only a few very quiet tracks by them. I enjoyed them
but it made me wish I'd been able to attend some of their live
collaborations with Gescom.
There are two shows left, I believe, in Bristol and Brighton.
