Regarding EMANATES question about the Roland TR-505.
As far as I know (please correct me if this is complete bollocks!) the
TR-505 is a basic drum-machine built in the mid 1980s,around the same sort
of time as the classic TR-808 and TR-909.
Unfortunately I don't think the 505 shares the same kind of 'techno'
analog sounds as the 808, I think Roland tryed to make a machine that
sounded more like a 'real' drummer and so it uses crap 80's samples/
sound circuits.Not a classic sound I shouldn't think.
I did just read an interview with Toby Marks( of Banco de Gaia fame)
in the June issue of 'The Mix',though, and apparently the 505 was his first
drum-machine.We all have to start somewhere!
If you're after the classic 808/909/CR78 dance sounds you should check
out the Boss DR660 (made by Roland)
I hope this is of some use.If I'm wrong about the sounds on the 505
please feel free to correct me.
Steve Ash :)
