just got a shipment of music and this release really stands out. i must have missed any mention of it around these parts- what a brilliant cd. the overall mood reminds me of monolake's desert ep, kind of dusty (yeah, yeah- no pun intended), night travel music. the funkstorung remix here seems more delicate than other remixes i've heard, which fits in perfectly. also got isan's salamander the other day. thanks much to all who recommended it- this really delivers (hasn't left the turntable since). susan --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The remixes are mediocre at best compared to the original "8". Best IDM tune of the past few years, easy. Ben On Fri, 21 Jan 2000, helmut auf den Zackbummvollgas wrote:

Yes this one was mentioned quite a bit here when it was released back in November. I think the Arovane and Monolake mixes are my favorites but nothing compares to the originals.

Yes indeed. A cd-reissue of Isan's Digitalis album is coming out soon on the Darla label (i think). So more Isan for the vinyl-impared soon! -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Subject: (amb) v/a "8, 8.5, 9 remixes" (fat cat) | just got a shipment of music and this release really stands out. i must have | missed any mention of it around these parts- what a brilliant cd. ________________________________________________- here's my review posted on this list December 14. ________________________________________ I'd just like to say a few words about this beautiful disc. As many of you know, Various Artists is an artist or a group that's made singles and an album (Decay Product) on Chain Reaction. So you can probably draw one wee conclusion: It's got that German Minimalist/Dub/Techno vibe. I like my Decay Product disc just fine. I like this new one a whole lot more. If you're a fan of Maurizio's self-titled disc of edits and remixes, or if you like the "kind of progressive unmooring of the rhythmic centre of gravity of a groove/piece" (as Alan Lockett said when speaking of Fluxion's _Vibrant Forms_) then I think you would eat this up whole. Overall the lead instrument is the bass, so this disc sounds wonderful through subwoofers, or through headphones. It's very well recorded. The bass goes through some wonderful slow rhythmic progressions, accompanied and enhanced by other rhythmic structures and percussion that comes and goes, altering that center of gravity, until you're just mesmerized. I've spent the last couple days in court on jury duty, and I can tell you this: it's _excellent_ music to listen to while waiting for something to happen. You won't be bored. This for me is elegant music, definitely in my top ten of 1999. There are 3 basic tracks, and each is remixed, perhaps by an artist you may have heard of: Arovane, Funkstorung, Autechre, Pole and Monolake. The disc totals over 64 minutes, and it's all lovely. I got mine from David Hodgson at PBE. _______________________________________ the | overall mood reminds me of monolake's desert ep, kind of dusty (yeah, yeah- | no pun intended), night travel music. the funkstorung remix here seems more | delicate than other remixes i've heard, which fits in perfectly. _________________________________________________ Glad you're enjoying this disc.
