I picked up an EP called "Tangents" by "RAC". It is pretty good in my opinion. Who are they? It is a WARP release (wap52cd) from 1994. There was also a similair looking EP but with "GAP" or something instead of "RAC". Is that the same artist? I hope this makes sense to someone :-) Also I would like to hear comments on the music on this EP. The first track reminds me of Sun Electric ... /Oskar Enoksson

Gak is really cool stuff. I'm not sure, but it sounds a hell of a lot like RDJ, they guy everyone loves to hate these days. Judging from around the time the music on this disc was copyrighted, my friends and I believe this is none other than Aphex. Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm sure someone will). As for peoples' opinions on the guy, no one is qualified to say whether he's good or not until they hear Polygon Window, Caustic Window, Analogue Bubblebath 3 (the entire hour-long LP), and SAW 1985-1992. I don't know any band where I have liked every single thing they have released, other than Meat Beat Manifesto.

The name RAC apparently stands for Richard And Chris. The surnames are Duckenfield and Benson (from the "Diversions" sleeve), but which is which I don't know. They were formerly known as Astrix & Space and did some remix work for Altern8 (but don't expect that to sound like "Tangents"!) If you liked it, do try and hunt down the "Diversions" EP too, as its much the same. 9 trax on CD, 5 on vinyl. WARP LP/CD 22 I think you've had all the answers you need about GAK - the official line from WARP did not reveal the identity, but apparently reps were telling shop assistants that it was by RDJ. That's GAK. There's been much conjecture about who's behind that one. RAC have another EP on Warp called Diversions and a single on Nucleus from a couple years ago. GAK just smells of Richard James. Any other Warp artists, besides Seefeel, who are published by Chrysalis Music? Andrew -- (c) 1995, Andrew Bennett abennett@hyperreal.com, abennett@iglou.com Andrew's Page

This reminds me to ask. Does anyone have a clue who wrote The Geep track on New Electronica's Unreleased 1? It smells of RDJ as well. Actually, someone had figured out who it was. I can't remember who it was, but it wasn't the Orb. Just some soundalikes.

When the 'Geep' came out on that comp. it was supposed to be by the Orb. I have a Melody Maker article mentioning them specifically. A couple of months later an Orb spokesman denied that they had ever had anything to do with the track. It bloody sounds like them though - especially if you listen to "Live '93"(Plateau especially). I hope that this is of some help. cheers, Graham Scott c648574@cclabs.missouri.edu "24 hour 23 people"

I have certainly been given the impression that it is the Orb. I read somewhere comments which were attributed to the Orb themselves about this track. For instance "Geep" is supposed to be an amalgamation of "Goat" and "Sheep". I don't remember where this was though. J ^ James Skilton aka Steady J - jamess@firefox.co.uk ^---+ What's in the basket? I know that RAC stands for Richard and Chris, some have said they they run the arm of Nucleus records, said to be an offshoot of Warp. RAC has quite a few releases on Nucleus, and I'm whippin' out the wallet to any one who has these two 12"s: RAC "National Breakdown" (Nucleus...possibly white lable RAC "Monsoon/Yogomotion" (Nucleus...again, possibly a white) These two have eluded me big time.
