Thought I'd share my _initial_ thoughts on ISDN:
The latest FSOL soundtrack to a movie you make in your head sees the
catalog of a years transmission via the ISDN. Sandwiched between tracks
which are both dark and mechanical (Just A Fuckin Idiot/An End Of Sorts)
we have an, at times uneasy, contrast between the dub-hop direction
introduced via Far-out Son Of Lung and the minimal, rambling layers of
(much of) the full-length Lifeforms.
It's the bass-heavy monster Slider which immediately interests me most.
Dub, trip and hip-hop placed in the mixing bag with FSOL controlling the
draw string to free the sound they want. Elsewhere, at times gloriously
lazy (Smokin Japanese Babe/Dirty Shadows) or minimal (It's My Mind That
Works/Tired), bear in mind that this is FSOL growing up in public and put
the cheesy Hot Knives down to misplaced youthful exuberance, eh ?
Despite being let down by a dull live recording (cf UfOrb) you'll most
likely want to check this out. I guess it's going to need more listens.
