I also write in a Dutch (fido) music area, where nearly all the IDM and Indie fanatics have gone out and bought Portishead. It's practically taken over :-) Still ... after Portishead, I need a good dose of Aphex Twin to come down to earth again. The 'Aphex Airlines' track on Ambient Isolationism will do just fine. Supposedly Portishead also remixed UNKLE's 'Time Has Come' on another Mo' Wax remix EP. Other remixers of this track include the Black Dog, Howie B and UNKLE themselves. I don't know if this will be another double 10" like that (amazing) La Funk Mob set. Also watch out for the 'Headz' compilation on Mo' Wax featuring DJ Shadow, Tranquility Bass, Howie B, Nightmares On Wax, UNKLE vs Major Force and Autechre with a remix of 'Lowride'....... OK...Everyone has been going off about Portishead. And many people have compared them to Massive Attack. I personally could pass on Massive Attack because of the soul vocals. Does Portishead have that same soully sound or does it stay on the thick dub vibe? Currently Plugged Into: Beastie Boys "Ill Communication" (the best damn group of the last ten years) "I've got more action than my man John Woo And I've got mad hits like I was Rod Carew."

Having soul is not something you can accuse Portishead of having. "Dummy" has a more folky feel, sort of Joni Mitchell albeit backed with that sort of Massive Attack hip-hop sensibilities. Also just checked out the latest issue of Mixmag and came out with the latest label: "Freestyle Techno". I thought it was just another industry tag 'til I ran smack dab into Brainbox, a Canadian product off the Nettwerk label. This shit is incredible! Just a juicy mix of electronic and jazz. I got this too and was really impressed. I liked Brothers and Systems (their band before, I think) but this is much better. At first I thought - Enigma on acid, but by the end I was thinking Enigma on Acid with Jack Dangers doing the Drum tracks and Herb Alpert on Trumpet and DJ Zero on the mix...Anyway I was impressed and still am. Pick it up! MC

If this record is half as good as you've made it sound, it's got to be a must have! Any title information here, and is this on Nettwerk? OnNow: Massive Attack, _Blue Lines_. This CD has just been picked by Tower Records ( big store live HMV BTW ) in the USA for major Promotion ( it is in all their listening stations ) so I saw it plastered everywhere - and I heard the single on the radio in Seattle. Should be easy to find now ( or at least soon ) unless you live in some backwater burg. I would be surprised if you had to search much longer. I don't know what label it is on though, because I didn't buy it because I didn't like it. Paul

Hi to all, Thanks for all the interest in the portishead tape. It seems like I've got rather more interest in this tape than I bargained for. I hope I don't upset anyone in the process of missing them out. If I can't figure a way of sending the tapes without incurring the cost of postage at my end then I've got five sets of tapes which I'll send as soon as poss. As for the rest please be patient and I'll see if my finances can handle any more deliveries. It may take some time. (Personally I hated the mix being a house/techno fan as it had a 70s feel to it) Respect to all, Derek.

That's cause portishead are the nuts! And yeah, Barrow walks over his vinyl to give it that scratchy feel! Wouldn't you love to work with someone like that?
