I've been thinking about this quite frequently. First I'll admit to the fact that Amber has been a bit of a let down. (As was their other LP.) Keep in mind what attracted me to this band was the Ai classics Crystel and the Egg. My wish for 'Miami bass/techno fusion' came to fruition only in a few tracks like Low Ride (what a breakdown!) and the Ai2 corker, Chatter (punchier then Mike Tyson's cell mate). The ride factor of Amber in next to nil. So It was let down. Don't get me wrong, you couldn't pry any of their vinyl from may hands! (And I do own almost all of it. I didn't fall for the 3x10" remixes.) I digress. You did say brief... For a taste of 'current' Autechre attitudes check the Anti EP. If you like that style, reach for the Amber. Next, ask a friend to tape Ai for you. That will have the early "techno electro lowriders." If those two flip your switches, seek out Incunabula for the Eggshell and Low Ride. As well you can get a taste of their bass (Low Ride) on the MO wax comp 'heads'. (And score some heay duty skills that pay the phat beat bills. "you keep the beat because you know the song..." Teep on my mind now: where is xdzebra? We need to bridge the coast on this BPD/GC/UZIQ tour talk. Peter...come down.
