permit me to get personal here and say that the Hardkiss boys are a bunch of manipulative lying thieves. i worked on their first three records, along with my then-partners mike & jeff. we got burned very badly from this collaboration. if you like those records, check out instead the new stuff coming from Ultraviolet Recordings (which is Mike & Jeff's label). jeff's album "let the magic flow" under the name Deluxe has lots of lush hardkiss-esque style music on it. i myself will have a 12" out soon under the name Bass Kittens featuring my own patented blend of electro, breakbeats and psychedelia. don't give hardkiss your $$$$.... -- Name: Jon Email: jsd@cyborganic.com Web: http://cyborganic.com/~jsd

Hi, I read the review of the new Hardkiss collection 'Delusions of Grandeur' in the latest Wired magazine (3.01, January 1995). I've been looking for any Hardkiss stuff since I heard some of their tracks on 'California Dreaming' compilation (internal/ffrr). Can anyone give the tracklist of 'Grandeur' (and maybe its release number), since it must be of interest to many Intelligent Dance Music people, methinks... Your situation is a little different. There are many artists who I find personally distasteful but whose art I respect - for example, Muslimgauze. His politics stink, but his music is great (frequently). In this case, we're talking about outright stealing. Jeff and I did the hard work and we were not credited or acknowledged at all. Hell, there's tracks where we practically wrote and produced the entire thing on our own... and it says "written and produced by gavin hardkiss." So you'll forgive me if I spout off a little... -- Name: Jon Email: jsd@cyborganic.com Web: http://cyborganic.com/~jsd

As a graphic designer, I was much pained to hear what a total money-grubbing, art-stealing asshole was David Carson (of Raygun fame). Every time I admire a piece of work with the Carson sig, the thought of him not paying money or respect to those he works crosses my mind, and thus taints my opinion. But I still respect the work -- not the man -- as disposable as (I hope) it may or may not prove to be. My point being, you've been slammed personally, which further taints your perspective. Numerous *artistes* throughout history have been notoriously hated for their personalities, begging the question "Why has such talent been gifted to such complete assholes?" Who knows. If only all artists were responsible artists, ie of the socially-conscious caliber as Terre Thaemlitz (MUCH respect for the work in progress dedicated to those gunned down in the abortion clinic murders). If I could buy music put out with such honorable intentions all the time, I would -- and I have bought stuff strictly for the artist's politics (Consolidated, for instance, whose message I happen to agree with but whose music even Jack Dangers often can't save). Chances are I won't buy the Hardkiss comp now that I know of an underground alternative on the same tip (I've put the Ultraviolet label on my "To check out" list). *That's* what it's all about. 19. (On Now: _TV Sky Live_ Young Gods -- anyone know of any recent material by these guys?)
