Picked up some new tunes. Here's the review. And away we go!
Q: "And how is life with Pentatonik's Anthology?"
A: "F**king Marvelous!" (Everyone laughs)
This one is a gift from Gawd! I haven't bought anything this good in
awhile. Very new sounding. Kind of like a mixture of Orbital, Some
Other People, and Young American Primitive. Two discs, and every minute
is chock full of listening pleasure. Really up at times, sometimes kind
of mellow/jazzy. The guy even uses acoustic instruments in parts. He
plays drums, keys, sax, etc. Kind of a Prince of IDM, though little
voice, only samples. An absolute must-have.
Q: "And how is life with Underworld's Dirty Epic/Cowgirl remixes?"
A: "F**king marvelous!" (Everyone laughs)
The Dirty Epic remixes are OUTSTANDING and long. Totally different
mixes, with bits of "MMM Skyscraper" mixed in. The Cowgirl remixes are
pretty cool, but sound more like stretched excerpts from the song. You
know how people try to stretch something a bit too long and it gets to
sound monotonous? Still very cool sounds to bore you with. A steal for
6 bucks.
Also picked up Survival 2000 and it is excellent. The Orbital track is
excellent but I hate all the crowd noise. The Loop Guru song is pure
genius. Kind of grating, but I'll deal with it. Was hoping for a more
"UP" song from Meat Beat Manifesto, but very cool, allthewhile.
Transglobal Underground, Dread Zone, System 7 and Shape Navigator songs
are all wonderful. Even the Moby song is listenable. That says a lot.
Finally, Vapourspace's Vista Humana is great. This guy sounds like
nobody else. Alot more interesting than his cohort Richie Hawtin.
Plastikman pales in comparison. The "nev" mix is mighty fine!
"Thank you very much, God. Over and out!"
