I just picked up the Pentatonik "Anthology" CD and love it. I also have all the Ambient dub compilations and am considering buying the Tower sampler with Pentatonik on it. Can anyone tell me what else they have done (i.e. 12"s and albums)? I rarely see anything by them in US stores. -- niemitz@cats.ucsc.edu On now: Pentatonik's Anthology

Hello: Damn, I just used up my Tower gift certificate and even searched for Pentatonik while at the NJ Tower!!! Argh... Could anyone try to describe Pentatonik's stuff? Have I heard them on ART? Feel free to compare and pigeonhole to label-sounds, I won't hold you to it. I realize listening is the best description. But what is the album like? -morgan geist

Pentatonik are somewhere in between the ambient dub stuff (HIA, Banco deGaya et al) and (for lack of a better term) "noisier" stuff (Autechre, Aphex Twin, Black Dog, B-12). They do use a beat in much of their work (and some of the songs on the album could almost be considered trance), though they definitely would not fill up the dance floor of a disco I'm not big on the "noisy" stuff myself, but I like this CD. Overall i'd say it's not quite dub, not quite ambient, not quite the "noisier" stuff (which I can't quite consider to be "intelligent dance music" since you can't dance to this stuff). How's that for a description? :) The only other stuff that I'm familiar with is stuff that appears on compilations every once and a while (Tower Records, One AD, the Higher Intelligence Agency remix ep). -- Though the store where I bought it said they have put out other albums and 12" singles. ----- niemitz@cats.ucsc.edu On now: The Infinite Wheel

While I was surprised to see that they are stocking Cosmic Baby, they still don't have any of the Instinct Fax releases, nor 76:14. Anyone have any info on a new full length? I know a single's been out for a lotta months now. I love _Anthology_ and cant wait for more stuff. His new single was really awesome, but i didn't wanna shell out $10 for 2 tracks one of which will be on the full length anyway. ta ta sung --- zagnut@interaccess.com

I recently heard that Pentatonik is soon to be returning with his first new album in almost 10 years. (Well, he didn't really go away, since he is one of the members of A1 People, but it's a return to the Pentatonik name at least...). This inspired me to pull out the Pentatonik dbl-CD release "Anthology", and ohmigod I'd forgotten how great this is! Yeah, the Orbitial influence is a little too obvious in places, but the structures and melodies are just so lush and beautiful. They don't make 'em like this anymore. Anyway - my main reason for posting is to see if anyone out there might happen to own the following three Pentatonik EP releases that preceded the album, and if they'd be willing to burn copies for me: Autonomous: Series One Re-solution: Series One Credo / Zeitgeist If my calculations based on the track times listed at Discogs.com are correct, these should all fit on a single CDR. I'll happily trade a burn of something rare from my collection in return. Please hit me off-list if you can help out.
