I have benn lucky enough to procure a promo copy of the new Irresistible Force LP. As usual there is no track listing with this Rising High promo, and although I have seen the listing posted, I do not have it to hand. I am not very experience at doing reviews, but here are my impressions from one listen this weekend The sound is instantly recognisable as MMM. Those ever-repeating glistening shards of sound are out there in force. The first 2 sides of the double vinyl didn't break any new ground for T.I.F., rather refining the established sound while remaining distinctive. On side three I was more surprised. Some very strange jazzy sounds came to my ears. On side 4, we revert to good old Terrence McKenna, but his whining has been toned down by about -8 on this disc, so he sounds like a normal human being (almost). A very pleasant trip. Overall, highly recommended to all connoisseurs of chillout/ambient and trance music. Mixmaster Morris fans won't be disappointed. Thanks to Rising High for a very good quality pressing on this, further enhanced by my brand-new SL1210s which I bought the same day! Apparently Rising High has put an import ban on Global Chillage since Astralwerks is releasing the CD in early 1995. I can understand keeping the CD's out to preserve sales in the States, but what about those ambient DJ's who try to be upfront and educate people? Allowing vinyl into the States will not hurt Astralwerks' bottom line and would even build some anticipation for the domestic release by dj's playing it in chill rooms.. and publications like TRiP reviewing it! We're even on Rising High's mailing list and were not even sent a copy... Annoyed... Peter Wohelski/DJ Orion OASiS Ambient Sound System TRiP Magazeen Tampa, FL.

This sounds wrong to me. I'm sure it's Astralwerks that put the import ban on GC (why in the world would Rising High want to close out a market?). Besides, RH would have had to have put an *export* ban on it. As for the legality of it, it happens all the time - if a company has the exclusive right to market and distribute a release in a given country, and other companies are deliberately going against that company's wishes in marketing and distributing it themselves, those other companies might find themselves in for a lawsuit - regardless of whether the first company chooses to exercise its right to market immediately. This sounds wrong to me. I'm sure it's Astralwerks that put the import ban on GC (why in the world would Rising High want to close out a market?). Well well. If it is illegal to own a copy of this album, then you better slap the cuffs on me right now. I got a vinyl copy (The Rising High Import) last week (AMAZING by the way, 'Manifesto' and "Waveform" are pretty mind-blowing). The crux of this is: What's the deal? I've seen copies of this CD/LP all over the city! What about other cities? Is it just cuz Canada used to be part of the Commonwealth ;) ? PeaceOut, Brad/Ecto On now:(0,7) Polygon Window
