the people from across the pond may be able to clarify this (i'm still not certain it's not a joke...) but a trainspotter is someone, in the uk i believe, who tries to spot every single car of every train in the isles. very strange. in terms of music, a trainspotter is someone who purchases compilations for a single remix they don't have, someone who purchases all formats of a single even though they have the same remixes or to get that one extre 'edit', someone who own every album by every side band of every member of a given group, someone who owns a copy of all the remix work done by a certain group, or someone who wishes that they fit into one of the categories above and is slowly starving themselves in order to do so. in short, if you're on this list, you're probably a trainspotter :) i'm not sure what autechre has against trainspotters, though i assume they mean really hard core trainspotters...not us innocent young fans... Its no joke. Trainspotters like to spend their time standing on train platforms and then write down the numbers of the carriages they see. In a country the size of England this isnt as hopeless a task as it might seem. I wasnt one of these people, those I was a member of Rail Riders once :)

Yeah. A trainspotter in terms of records is someone who collects all of one kind of thing, usually specific to a specific group or artist. A trainspotter spends his time trying to find rare tracks, limited editions, and other seemingly insignificent information about their particular subject. Kind of like a lot of Richard James fans. :)

No, a trainspotter is someone who is constanty trying to recoginze all the equipment you are using during a live performance (They even tried to steal some of mine once), and instead of enjoying the concert, they are a pain in the bud because they ask silly questions that must have gotten on Autechres nerves. That's understandable, but a significant part of record sales is that of trainspotters....
