So I'm trying to stay healthy as the legions of darkness, manifested in the common cold, assault my head; I turned off the lights and plugged into "8 07" by everyone's favorite Global Communicators. The repetitive synth part comes in, and the first thing in my head is the "Colors"-era King Crimson, a song either of _Discipline_ or _Three..._. And that made me feel a whole lot better. I have yet to locate any u-Ziq vinyl or CD yet, but if the product lives up to the praise as much as it did w/ Global Communication, I'll be in heaven. _76:14_ is nearly perfect, even if it clocks in three seconds longer than it should. And, to not totally lose the King Crimson connection, has anyone heard enough of the new album to comment? Yeah, it's been pointed out again and again, and there was a very good post on the ambient list about the unpredictablility of CD running times. What nobody seems to have noticed is that the times listed for the tracks on the cover add up to 76:12. Did Pritchard and Middleton take players adding two seconds to the actual time into account, or do the numbers 76 and 14 possibly have some significance beyond a running time? I remember a similar argument about the Orb's Blue Room - it was supposed to be 40:00 but everybody's CD had 39:58. The 40 minute rule relates to singles being considered for the charts. A single that exceeds 40 minutes will not be considered, presumedly to prevent record companies from enticing buyers with numerous 'bonus' tracks or remixes. At one time the limit was 20 minutes (can't remember when it changed) so US singles were much sort after as they often doubled or tripled the playing time of the UK version.

I was under the impression that this was done so that the disc would still classify as a "single". Sami

Let me preface by saying that it's not IDM at all, so sue me... but it's _very_ good. It's not an album, it's what KC call a "calling card" for the new "double trio" lineup in the liner notes -- 6 tracks, 31 minutes (I think). As a point of reference, it sounds a lot more like _Red_ than, say, _Discipline_ or _Beat_ -- sometimes harsh, maybe even bombastic, but always, always interesting. An intriguing little bit printed on the sleeve reads as follows: The phonographic copyright in these performances is operated by Discipline (GM) Records on behalf of the artists, with whom it resides. Discipline accepts no reason for artists to give away such copyright interests in their work by virtue of a "common practice" which is out of tune with the time, was always questionable and is now indefensible. actually wasn't it supposed to be just under 40 minutes but not exactly 40 minutes in order to defeat a definition in the UK which said something like... any CD single that is over 40 minutes should be considered a full lenth album and cannot be sold as a CD single at CD single prices.
