Send an email to "ear-rational@XMission.COM" with the word "catalog" in the
"Subject:" header. You'll get a catalog back and ordering information is
contained within.
Here's some comparison shopping on "In Order To Dance 5" based on an excursion
I made to Hollywood yesterday ...
Here's Dave's listing in his September catalog (haven't gotten October's yet):
V/A - In Order to Dance 5 (2-CD) [19083] R&S $33.50 #
V/A - In Order to Dance 5 [2-CD/CDS in plexiglass lightbox = 19086] $269.00
He didn't have a listing for the 3-CD version (RS 94036 X), surprisingly.
I went to DMC, a Techno/Trance/Acid/Jungle specialty store (read: $$$) first:
V/A - In Order to Dance 5 (5-LP boxed set) R&S $41.99
V/A - In Order to Dance 5 (2-CD) R&S $2?.??
V/A - In Order to Dance 5 (2-CD/CDS ltd. ed.) R&S N/A
V/A - In Order to Dance 5 [2-CD/CDS in plexiglass lightbox] $346.00
Then I went over to Aron's, an alternative/general store (read: cheaper) next:
V/A - In Order to Dance 5 (5-LP boxed set) R&S $34.09
V/A - In Order to Dance 5 (2-CD) R&S $23.98
V/A - In Order to Dance 5 (2-CD/CDS ltd. ed.) R&S $28.98
V/A - In Order to Dance 5 [2-CD/CDS in plexiglass lightbox] N/A
I was surprised to see that Aron's price for the limited edition 2CD+CD5 was
cheaper than EAR/Rational's.
I was *not* surprised in the slightest to see that DMC would try and rip people
off so much for the Exorcist puke green lucite version (or the vinyl box set,
either). Their prices are really bad. I only buy stuff from them if Aron's
doesn't have it, i.e. things like 12" (Just found the old Locust "Needle" 12"
there yesterday, and a Ken Ishii 12" on +8 from last year ... ooops, there I go
again, buying "Trendy" labels like Apollo ... )
As for "In Order To Dance 5" itself, it's fantastic. The main double-CD has
some excellent tracks (though why Renaat chose "Phi*1700" from the mu-Ziq 12" I
can't understand) and I was very happy to find out that some of the
lesser-known acts were just as exciting as the known (I am particularly
impressed by the Speed Jack, Teste, 69, and Sensurreal tracks at the moment).
The limited edition version CDS contains 6 tracks (Wild West, 69, Minimal
Vision, Sun Electric, Ken Ishii and Link a.k.a. Mark Pritchard of Reload/G.C.).
As much as I love Sun Electric, Ken Ishii and Reload/G.C., none of these tracks
on the extra CDS are really essential. (The extra tracks are available on the
LP version and with the lucite version.)
As far as the lucite version goes, it's really neat ... but for a 1/10th of
the price you can get the same music and there's a 2-D picture of the lucite
thingy on the cover of the 2CD case anyway :-) So save your cash.
I bought the ltd. ed. 2CD+CDS version, but if you're on a budget, save yourself
$5 and get the regular version. You not really missing out on much ...
