I can't quote it verbatim since I don't have the set handy, but the general
gist was that Eno was complaining that most of the artists doing so-called
"ambient" today didn't sound very ambient to him. More like what people who
just bought a synth and fucked around with it for a few days could do. He
specifically mentioned James. But this was pre-SAW2, which is much more
ambient that SAW1... I'll try to remember to bring in the booklet one of
these days and post the exact text.

is it? i dunno, i think they're both pretty dull, actually. i'm not big
fan of Discreet Music - it's much more notable for the process of its
construction rather than the actual result. but Eno's successful ambient
releases just have so much depth to them - I think far more than
James/Namlook/whoever else is trendy this week. whatever, different
strokes...

well, all it actually said was that Mixmaster Morris was considering making
samples of his work available for people to download, just like Seefeel have
already done. (Huh? Have they? I didn't know that, but that's what it
said in the article...)

Er, the article only mentioned that T/W was starting a few labels that would
be doing interactive CD-ROMs and such... One of the labels is being helmed
by the guy who produced "The Residents' Freak Show" for Voyager, so it has
potential!

I'm not surprised about this when they have a built-in audience for their
stuff that will pay the bills. I AM surprised that the non-quorum faction
of the band hasn't launched Yet Another side project to fulfill their more
futuristic leanings. I can't imagine why, really.
