FAX discography (was Re: Pete Namlook)

I just ftp'd this from techno.stanford.edu in /pub/ambient/labels (thanks Mike B!) so enjoy... I hope it wasn't too redundant sending this to the list but these has been recent discussion/inquiries along these lines, so here goes... BTW what do the dates like 20/93 or 38/93 mean? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ FAX RECORDS Germany fax: +49 69 450464 Distributor: N.E.W.S. Gent BELGIUM tel: + 32 92 250 230 fax: + 32 92 331 049 NOTE: Wholesale only Fax Records was set up in 1992 (?) by Peter Kuhlman in Germany. The main body of the label's output is ambient (eg 4Voice, Synsyl, The Putney) or ambient trance (Sequential), but some hardtrance (Sextant) and techno fit into the bill as well. Peter's motto is that the day he has to compromise in his music he will quit. He has kept up his standard reasonably well, considering that Fax is putting out at least a release per week - sometimes even four releses (or more) during the same week and some of them are full length CDs! Peter himself works on various projects and under many guises (see artist profile for aliases). The ambient sound of Fax is mostly very calm and minmal, just a few synth layers, an odd chord here and there and maybe an odd drum or vocal sample. This is not to say that the music is bad, it just may not be everybody's cup of tea as it is very ... er... simple. Furthermore I wouldn't suggest gathering the whole back catalogue of Fax even if one is a devoted fan, because of the somewhat redundant nature of the recordings. Still, there are some true gems in there and a healthy range of diversity (compare for instance the works of Sequential to those of Silence), so anybody interested in the current affairs of ambient should check out this label. Some of the earlier releases have been licensed to Rising High (UK), Music Man (Belgium), R & S (Belgium) and Injection Records. To date (1.Sep.1993) there has been more than 80 Fax relesas so one should be able to find something interesting among the releases that haven't yet sold out (unfortunately quite many have sold out). [*NOTE* Could someone please add to the above list? It's hard to keep up, and the author of this article hasn't got time to do the research. -Mike] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- /-oOOo------------oOOo-\ --------------------------/------------------------\-------------------------- "the only constant / Harvey D.
