I can't believe it's been a whole week and no one has really mentioned
anything about the new Aphex Twin single. Someone posted the song titles,
but this is an essential record. It doesn't really have a title, but the main
song is "On", I guess. It has a beautiful piano melody until the unearthly
drums kick in. "dscape" is also pretty ambient, with a harpsichord like melody.
The other two songs "xepha" and "72yip" (or something like that- I don't have
it in front of me) are more percussion oriented, but still good. If this is
any indication of what the next album will be like we're in for a big treat.
I forgot where I read it but the next album is supposed to be more coherent,
since it has been created as a single piece rather than a bunch of songs thrown
together like "Selected Ambient Works". The remix ep is also good. The "dscaap
and 28" mixes are by Richard himself, I presume. The reload mix is really good.
The u-ziq (u supposed to be the greek mu) remix, to me at least, sounds a lot
like the original mix speeded up. I still prefer the original mix of "On", but
the remix ep is also worth getting. Other opinions on this single? Does anyone
have the u-ziq album "Tango and Vectif"? I've looked for it but can't find it.
I'm wondering how good it is.
All in all, this is one of the best Warp releases in recent memory.
Speaking of Warp, the next artificial intelligence album comes from Autechre.
They had that song "The Egg" on the first compilation. I meant to figure this
out, but is Autechre B12 in disguise? In Mixmag a while back, they said the
next AI album would be by Orteca. I don't know if anyone followed the "Orb
remix/Aubrey mix" thing on the KLF/Orb list (and the mess that followed), but
If you fool around with the pronunciation of these two words, they're the same.
Oh well, wasted space.
