Upon first listen I found this album to be a lot less accessible than their last release on Warp. It's cool, but I feel that 'Bytes' had more of an organic flavor to it - the production on this new effort doesn't seem to be as smooth and elegant, and the tracks don't connect coherently. But that's ok, because the lack of production lets their raw ideas shine - in that way I think it's more of an experimental, conceptually-oriented effort. It's cool.. The track 'Cost II' I thought was brilliantly done. It's rich.. I'm still getting through ART (Applied Rythmic Technology) #4 - I'll post about that once I'm through listening to it. I can tell you right now that I like the mix of Balil's 'Nort Route' that appeared on the Intergalactic Beats compilation (Planet E) a lot better than the one on ART #4. Any comments on this? I'm REALLY looking forward to Black Dog's next outing on Warp - did someone say January? Darshan
