WOOW! that about says it all. Just got back from the moby/afx/orbital show in Philadelphia. Soon after arriving, I saw a guy wearing an afx shirt and went over to say hello - he was actually Scott, the Aphex Twin dancer :) He's a really nice guy, we talked about all kinds of stuff before he had to go get ready for the show. Soon after meeting Scott, Richard James himself came by and I got to say hello to him again and give him an NE:Raves sticker :). Orbital came on after VapourSpace (+8) and played a fairly long set which got fairly boring towards the end, but was really good in the mainpart. Then finally, it was time for richard to do his stuff. Talk about a lack of stage presence..you didnt really know he was even there. The entire performance, which was totally live, took place off the edge of the stage with richard sitting in front of his Atari while Scott, the dancer, took center stage and went crazy jumping and pointing around like a madman. His set was comprised mostly of unreleased material ranging from some heavy dub experimental sounds to an all out auditory assault. brutal. One of the few songs that I was able to pick out was his remix of Mescalinium Uniteds "we have arrived" which pounded and pounded for quite some time. Also, given out on the tour, were cassettes with tracks from each of the performing artists, including "d-scape" (i think) by afx. My one complaint of the night - I didnt get one :(. Anyway, from talking to Scott and Rich, heres some info I collected. Selected Ambient Works II, which is now scheduled for January, will be (as rumored) a double CD/triple vinyl collection with 25 tracks, over 2 hours of music. Scott said that he'd heard 75% of the album already and that it was a lot more experimental than the first, "classic richard" :) yaaaay. Oh, nearly forgot. The mistaken identity thing happened again...while lurking around in the dark, somebody came up to me and tapped me on the shoulder: "excuse me, are you Richard James??" "errrr....no" (me) thats the third time thats happened! :) heh excuse my poor posting....its 4:00am :) _______ (__,-, \ / /\ \ f l u i d /,_) \ \ (/ \\ brit@bach.udel.edu \) flu'id (floo'-)
