*tamara tells us that james taylor quartet (usually billed as just JTQ) *is acid jazz... more like crappy disco revival with a thin patina of *acid jazzness smeared on it to make it acceptable to club kids of the *90's... god do I fucking hate the JTQ... i hate JTQ more than i hate *FASCISM... Now, now, now. Either Jon is kidding or he hasn't seen them play live and heard most of their discs! Albeit acid jazz is a quite undefined term on it's own (used to be more precise in circa '88), I wouldn't narrow it to mean only Acid Jazz (the label) artists. There's a lot of soul, funk and even swing based stuff on that label also. Furthermore if you listen to JTQs live album or tracks like "Theme from Starsky & Hutch", well it's pretty hard to label them as a lame disco act. It's true that their last album has been more of a sell out (only a few good tracks) and that the singles were mixed on the disco & deep house tip, but they have not always been like that (and in a live situation probably are not even yet). But if you really feel like JTQ being just another rip-off, I urge you to check out the Mo' Wax label if you haven't already done so. Funky stuff on a jazz tip (see! I didn' say a*id j*zz again! :) making an argument, samu -- "Roll up for the Mystery Tour!"
