MODESELEKTOR BIO
With their stunning live performances and genre-mashing approach to techno composition, Modeselektor’s Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary have earned themselves an international reputation among music fans and high-profile peers alike. Radiohead’s Thom Yorke was one of their first vocal supporters, and listening to 2005’s Hello Mom! and 2007’s Happy Birthday!, it’s not hard to see why. Modeselektor gleefully disregard the rulebook, incorporating heavy doses of dancehall, hip-hop, jacking techno, IDM, and ambient onto corrosive templates that bring to mind French acts like Justice as well as more highbrow British stalwarts like Autechre. Modeselektor do it all, and they do it extremely well. Modeselektor set a milestone in german music history with their sophomore album, "Happy Birthday!", including musicians such as Puppetmastaz, Maximo Park and Thom Yorke. Amongst a slew of remixes for the likes of Thom Yorke, Radiohead and Björk, Modeslektor also went on to tour with Radiohead across japan in 2008.
APPARAT BIO
Apparat is the bridge over the German gap of melancholic glitch between Manchester and Laptop-USA. His smart wiring of emotions produces a virtual musical reality, which is based upon different genres, depending on the surrounding of the “apparat”. In his studio, dense, dark and majestic clouds of elegiac pop and heavy Electronica built up to a coherent and emotionally charged atmosphere. Live, on the other hand, the dance floor seems to be repelled to rave from the Bermuda Triangle with its axes Techno, IDM and Elektro. Those styles cannot necessarily be distinguished and heard on every of his releases, but since he started out with a much harder pace of electronic music in the early nineties, his influences are definitely Techno and Electro as well. The intensity in Apparat’s tracks seems to grow with his own pleasure in experimenting. The charming breaking-up of the mechanical walkover of his electronica compositions first being subtle clicks and accidental “sound mistakes”, this is now being done by veritable musicians and singers, by classical instruments like violin and cello, saxophone and clarinet, which are then masterly orchestrated by Apparat as the Maestro of his computer.
Apparat's critically acclaimed 2007 release "Walls" (after his collaboration with ellen allien on "orchestra of bubbles"), took on a new musical path that was more band-oriented and has kept him on tour for several years running.
