In terms of making comparisons to Point 7, in most cases, these seem
like apples next to the exemplary orange.
The Hidden Persuader record is electro. For me electro is either really
good or tedious, the latter being by far the most populous category.
I've been listening to electro since it crawled out between Kraftwerk
and b-boys, and I don't hear anything special here.
The Eero Johannes is indeed interesting, but the only reason to cast it
in the problematic nomenclature of idm is because of a lack of
appropriate signifiers.
It's more of a collision between synth pop and electronic soul with some
clever moves.
The Loneshark ep delivered, in my opinion, one really nice track
("Battle Gongs") and another good one ("Pirates"); the two 'in the
middle' seemed less worthy to my ears, creating a sort of sandwich that
shows promise but has too much crust.
The Infinite Scale is the most appropo in terms of genre, but although
it's a good record, it doesn't add up to the same quality throughout as
the Point 7 does in my ears. For the record, there are elements of the
Point 7 I don't like, e.g. that tinge of rave afterwash. Admittedly,
using my own construct of idm (which is unusually rigid for me, if only
for the sake of making my point here), that rings genuine to the
90's-ish patina on the record.
