*LATE reply* On Sun, September 28, 2008 7:53 pm, Wallace Winfrey wrote: --> Did anyone else on this list (besides Fishead) go to Schizophrenia 3? yup --> I know I'm a month after the fact with this shit, but I haven't read any --> other mention of it on this list, and that was seriously one of the best --> parties I've ever been to. Abelcain's set was particularly mind-blowing. i'd venture to say a big testament to how great his set went over with the crowd was the fact there was an A-BEL-CAIN chant going on at the end! --> In my opinion, it's a shame that Venetian Snares gets so much attention --> while Abelcain continues in the shadows. I mean, Aaron is an amazing --> producer, and I love his music, and he deserves all the attention he --> gets, but Marty's stuff is so much it's equal, and to my ears, deeper. I --> mean, really, if you're talking about who's at the top of the chopped up --> breakbeats game, it's gonna be Snares and Abelcain. Abelcain's set at S3 --> was just, fucking jaw-dropping. So deep and layered, but with so much --> room to breath at the same time. Phenomenal. Can I get a witness? amen brother? i'm not afraid to dance/convulse when people play (ESPECIALLY with a crowd of that size/enthusiasm) but i tend to be reserved with the applause & am definitely not a shouter/yeller... ...after my 8th "FUUUUUUCK YEEEAAAAH!!!" i was starting to wonder if i was becoming THAT guy... within 10-15 mins of the abelcain set, my glasses were thrown to the floor thanks to spastic "no-no" head shaking tactics, if that gives any idea to the hype going on... --> While, seriously, everyone who played was just the absolute tops (keep --> an eye out for Stagediver (stagediver.radiograffiti.org), this guy is --> definitely going places), Mark N was also notably fucking amazing, I --> hope more than a few of you out there got a chance to check him out on --> his recent tour. He reminded me what an amazing producer Current Value --> is when he dropped a couple of his tracks in his set. i'll also mention the beginning of the baseck vs dynasty set; 4 turntable hip hop battle type tactics but with a palette of noise & hard beats vs "usual" sounds you'd hear of the turntablism variety. --> I also got turned --> onto the most excellent Ohio breakcore label, No Use For Talent records, i picked up 5 releases from NRFT a week before schizophrenia; the Forbidden Society release on the NRFT sublabel abusive consequences is getting the most replays from me... especial the "dust" track. i was surprised to find out Forbidden Society was none other than Noize Punishment. repetitive & BANGING... --> and got the first release on Detroit's Void Tactical Media, which I --> highly recommend: it's J-Stat vs. Split Horizon, some crunchy mid-tempo --> breakcore/techno shiznit. i'll 2nd the recommendation: split horizon is over-driven gear-powered broken-beat bidness, if you're thinking hard Somatic Responses, you'll be in the ballpark... J-Stat's is similar in nature but there's a little more play/intricacy in the rhythm patterns. the silk-screened cover is tits too. --> At any rate, audio and video from the sets are starting to show up on --> the official site: http://schizophrenia.c8.com. There was video shot by --> multiple people of basically everything and hopefully that'll go up --> there. I didn't get a chance to check out Fishead's set because I was in --> the midst of collapsing from exhaustion, but he did an ALL-LAPTOP set, I --> kid you fucking not. thanks to Fishead, i haven't been able to get Ratt's "Round & Round" out of my head for some time now... --> Check his redux set on the Schizo site (we couldn't --> record it because the solid-state recorder ran out of room, and the DAT --> machine wouldn't turn on cause it was so humid in the space! Seriously, --> it kept blinking "DAMP DAMP DAMP" at us, not surprising considering --> sweat was dripping from the fucking ceiling by midnight). these statements still really don't paint a proper picture; it was a fucking sweat lodge in there serious perception impairments without (over)inebriation influences... --> Also of note: the Unibomber/Davros Amiga 500 battle from Schizophrenia 2 --> recently came out on vinyl (double 12" on red vinyl, and sounds great) --> from Noizetek, and it is HIGHLY recommended for all fans of 8-bit --> breakcore. The sampling on that release is particularly fine. If you've --> heard the sets from S2, you know what you're getting, except a little --> bit clearer and without Doormouse MCing. And, of course, on red fucking --> vinyl. not only is it red, but with it being translucent, if you hold it up to the light, it has a marbling quality to it ---> pretty cool. even though i have plenty of early bloody fist 12", i don't think i've heard a n 8-bit release sound this DIRTY... raw raw raw. the phone call @ the beginning of the unibomber side is amusing --> Anyway, after not reading the IDM list for a couple months, and finally --> going back and seeing how everyone was picking over the corpse of --> eyeedeeem again, I was surprised that there was nary a mention of --> breakcore. IMHO, that's where the energy's at, perhaps not --> breakcore-breakcore, but whatever breakcore's currently evolving into. --> You might disagree, but if you were at Schizo 3, you'd probably be --> feeling the same way as me right about now. Do I hear an amen? AMEN, --> BROTHER. i don't think you're going to get any love on this list w/ talk like that... BUT, schizophrenia 3 was THE shite ...i'll try my damndest to be there if a pt 4 is on the horizon. --> Thanks, Fishead, for writing those reviews of Schizo 1 & 2. Without --> them, I probably wouldn't have been quite so motivated to go. If any of --> you want to go to one of the best fucking parties you will ever go to, --> be sure and travel to the midwest for Schizo 4, whenever the fuck they --> decide to have it (and they are definitely havin' another one). definitely, eh? i'm there. -geoff/drbmd -- badtaste4life.com badtastesucks.com animalswithinanimals.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
