The annoying thing is the way that a lot of journos then lionize this sort of hybridizing - which tends to back away from what's so new and exciting about the style (in this case the bass centric minimalism) while at best ignoring and often disparaging the people who are at the cutting edge of actually rewriting the subgenre template.
Speaking of dubstep, I'm off to see Loefah in Nottingham tonight. I'm a little excited.
Speaking of recent albums, the new Breakage is rather nice - it's not got the amen choppage styles (or quite the raw excellence) of the Planet Mu 12", but it is Pretty Good - minimal atmospheric drum and bass, intelligent but still razor sharp, a nice antidote to the current gurn-step dominating the clubs. CD2 consists of some interesting downtempo stuff, too.
