A bit o/t, please bear with.. Being the cheapskate that I am, I went browsing online the other night for the most inexpensive software based dj mixing application that I could find. I downloaded the freeware dj mix program Tactile 12000, which appears to have been around for a while now (late 90's or so). A neat little piece of freeware which enables one to beatmix mp3 and aiff/wav (pitch adjust to +/- 8, as on turntables) although it does have it's many limitations (wishy washy pisspoor scratching/limited creativity with crossfader) and I will have to split my G4's stereo output to enable "proper" headphone monitoring, resulting in a shoddy mono mix with which to impress any innocent bystanders ("Don't worry Gran, it's only Merzbow")..... Keyboard shortcuts to all the controls APART from the headphone monitoring buttons (what the kcuf were they thinking???) round out this functional, if limited, little toy. Getting my mits on Ableton or Traktor is something to aspire to in the long run, although for now, what with saving for a decent laptop my priority, the best possible cheapo alternative will suffice for my needs. I'm sure that this has been discussed at length by the board previously, but seeing as folk are discussing Ableton Live, could people ever be so generous as to offer their recommendations/experiences of using any of the shareware/freeware DJ mix tools available online, particularly for a Mac running OSX Panther ? I've heard DJ sets from peeps using Ableton 4 or earlier (I think), but after giving the demo version a try I wonder how they really do this. Do they sample & cut all the tracks to WAV to be able to play them in Ableton? That's the only way I saw it possible... -- "progress doesn't come from early risers progress is made by lazy men looking for easier ways to do things" http://n3wjack.blogspot.com http://www.jungletrain.net - 24/7 dnb radio station --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
