Hum... 'classical music rules' are a bit of a myth, really - it's more like there are a bunch of guidelines along the lines of 'if you don't want it to sound dissonant, don't use flattened fifths' and 'if you want your voices to remain distinct, don't use parallel octaves' and 'if you want to write a piece in strict sonata form, you must do X Y and Z', but they're all of the form 'if you want to do X then it's probably a good idea to do Y,' rather than 'Thou Shalt Not...'

I'm a classically trained bass player (albeit not a particularly good one) and I take great pleasure in out of tune unsync'ed loops and random noises. And there are all sorts of people like John Cage who aren't just classically trained but are actual classical composers and who go out and do completey off the wall stuff. So it's not like doing A-level music leaves you unable to do anything but harmonize a Bach chorale for the rest of your life.
