I don't see that the "cruising drunk egotistical" side is merely a
product of recent history; I think it's been part of the scene (and any
party-oriented scene) all along. While I'll be the first to admit that
I've been tempted to romantically re-imagine the past out of nostalgia,
I don't think it helps us deal with the here and now of the scene.
That whole "second summer of love" thing also involved the kind of love
that you clean up with a mop and bucket. =]
