A lot of people bitch about distribution in the u.s. for electronic music, so basically if you wanna start a label, get the money together, send out at least 200 - 300 promos worldwide of the first release after you press it, mail promos to distributors about a week after the promotions go out then 4 - 5 weeks after sending out the promos hit up the distributors with a brief but friendly message, a good rate (maybe $5.00 per cd), and hope. I have a website with distributor, promo, and other info here: http://www.fourthcity.net/label_forums/ oh yeah and please only start a label if your working with new amazing artists. the entire hey maybe lusine will do a track for me doesn't work, I'd only start a label if something is so good you have to release it and they haven't released anywhere else. Also don't go around asking for a production and distro deal after only 2 releases and regardless of what you do, your gonna lose money on the first release or 2 until distro works out and you know who among that pack of 300 promos is worth sending to (i.e. what writers love your label and what ones don't review it). Regardless it's a lot of fun and very little money, but worth doing if you have the time, energy, and the ability to bother me excessively about booking your artists =) Peace, A On Jan 11, 2005, at 9:19 PM, John Counts wrote:
