I don't know if the would be defined as IDM but i would describe them as the Folk version of Prefuse 73 without the talent of his audio manipulation. Am i the only on that notices that the "Postal Service" cd sound exactly like the "White Town" cd "Women In Technology?"
I really enjoy Zammuto, but, try as I might, I can't get into The Books. I did enjoy their first album more than "The Lemon of Pink", though. On the other hand, I like Postal Service together more than either of their solo work.
