Greetings, Environ had a killer event on Sunday December 5, and the mp3 excerpts of both sets are now available on http://www.environline.net in the audio downloads section... We're doing it again on Sunday January 2nd with an over the top continuous 4 hour improvised session titled TALULU to help you come down from the New years madness... Stay tuned for more info closer to the date... We don't often plug other gigs but this one's worth it... read on... _______________ Stable, Substrata, Qube Konstrukt and Slap Records present FIRST SIGNAL - Phoenecia (Schematic Records, USA) live, Saturday December 18th at The Corner Hotel with supports Qua and Cambion live,DJs Quockenzocker and Dave Pham. Phoenecia are Joshua Kay and Romulo Del Castillo. They began in 1995 as an electro group known as Soul Oddity, changing their name to Phoenecia when they began making deeper more experimental sounds. Joshua and Romulo also run breakthrough experimental label Schematic(housing the output of Phoenecia, Richard Devine, Otto Von Schirac and more) and as PhoeneciA make crazy beat laden experimental analogue glitch which encompasses sounds and influences from dub, hip hop and electro for Schematic,Warp and more. Touring throughout the last 2 years, their jaw dropping 2 man live show has received countless accolades throughout Europe and the US, including a brain-frying much-mentioned set at Sonar Festival 2003, and are now set to tear up Australia. Expect complex percussive figures and fractured rhythms, robotic beatbox fragments, squirting, jittering basslines, and improvised mayhem as they rip their recorded work into shreds... an unmissable chance to see 100% live experimental music as it should be but rarely is... raw, innovative, engaging and unpredictably brilliant. In support, Melbourne's own Qua (Cornel Wilczek) will showcase his recent album on Surgery Records, Painting Monsters on Clouds. Foregetabout folktronica, kiddietronica, or even pigeonholetronica as Qua is operating in his own league. This is Quatronica. In fact aspects of it don't even sound all that electronic, drawing upon elements of world music, folk, and even rock in this incredible fusion. www.surgeryrecords.com. Cambion (Graylands, Uncomfort Records) is making waves both in Australia and internationally for intricate, emotional, intelligent but definitely not serious experimental sounds - from frenetic glitchcore to gentler sweet laptopscapes. He will be playing a 3 - project mashup with sounds from his upcoming releases as Nightmare Man(Uncomfort Records), Aaron Quick (Graylands) and Cambion. If you haven't heard Cambion yet prepare to have a new favourite artist to follow around his many projects... www.graylands.com Both are at the forefront of Melbourne's experimental underground and put on an essential live show to boot... DJs Quockenzocker (Synaesthesia records) and Dave Pham (Forklift) will roll with the punches and push all the right buttons... Signal is a new touring brand for live experimental music, from the strangest to the most fucked up music you will hear, showcasing international and local artists that redefine the meaning of a "live show" and prove that analogue is evil and laptops can kill... this is the first Signal show and the start of the Signal/Schematic records touring schedule... stay tuned for more Signal events in 2005.
