Yeah, however nobody has ever suggested to me that one might need to wrap a CDR in aluminum foil for shipping purposes. Digital recording doesn't "sound bad" unless you are using tiny samples or too low of a sampling rate. Archiving digital data isn't at all dangerous. in fact, you can record hundreds of copies across multiple digital formats with no quality loss whatsoever. let's see analogue do that. both formats are subject to unrecoverable loss, but again, if you lose your analog masters you have lost a generation of quality, whereas you can lose digital masters, and a copy of a copy sounds just as good as the original. Honestly, both formats have their advantages and disadvantages, and clinging to one because it's "superior" closes your mind to the possible advantages of another for given applications. If you're talking about analogue audio tape, such as the original poster was, it should be obvious to you that a CD is going to have better fidelity and frequency response than audio tape. if you consider a hiss that drowns out your high frequencies to be "warm" well i suppose that's your perogative, but i for one would rather hear the recording than artifacts of the recording media. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
