See you Tonight! This is the LAST but not LEAST Synapse :) Synapse when: Mon 11.8 (9pm-2am) where: Monroe's (8623 Melrose Ave at Huntley, 310.360.0066) price: Free <<live audio>> 9pm STEVE NALEPA (Terpsichore Group) www.stevenalepa.com 10pm AEROSTATIC (NYC) 11pm DAVID LAST (The Agriculture) www.davidlast.net 12am JIMMY EDGAR (Warp Records) www.jimmyedgar.com 1am TL SMITH (ELM Conceptions) <<live video>> DAVID LAST (The Agriculture) www.davidlast.net JIMMY EDGAR (Warp Records) www.jimmyedgar.com BIOMORPHICA (Terpsichore Group) www.biomorphica.com Jimmy Edgar (Warp Records) www.jimmyedgar.com For those who still assume that Detroit is comprised of boarded windows, violent streets, and a charisma-deficient populace, twenty-year-old Jimmy Edgar disperses such thoughts, while kindling hope for the future of the Motor City. A producer of rare ability who has fiddled with beats since the age of ten, Edgar maintains an understanding of music that's well beyond his years. As a high-profile recent addition to the vaunted Warp Records roster, he melds Detroit soul and minimal micro-funk to form a patchwork of forward-looking dance floor tracks in a fascinating array of sound. He passes through Los Angeles on his west coast tour supporting his Warp debut, "Bounce, Make, Model." David Last (The Agriculture) www.davidlast.net David Last is seriously interested in making beautiful and funny things. Nine years ago in New York he began making books with the art books collective Booklyn, while making sounds with bands and L.E.S. pirate radio station "Steal This Radio." Since, he's continually produced tracks and begun producing live video projections. His video work reacts to sound, and includes animated drawings, paintings, collage, photographs, and camera footage. His current sounds are being released on NYC label The Agriculture. David Last has done solo and collaborative work in North America and in Japan. His artwork has been bought and shown by collections in the USA, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and MOMA. David Last's interest in coaxing strange beauty from electro-organic systems has led him into collaborations with many artists. He has collaborated on live audio and/or visual performances with the Kompakt and Rephlex labels, Alex Patterson (The Orb), and Colin Newman (Wire)just to name a few. Aerostatic (Michele Darling & Terry Golob) NYC based Aerostatic compose microbeats, macrobeats, atmospheres and ambience, then sonically violate them using hardware, software and an array of sensors. The results are polarized between sexy/foreplay music and surreal imagery, ie. asymetrical insects flying in and amongst transgenic flowers in an artificial garden. It's all weird but one word sums it all up... Hydroponics. Nalepa (Terpsichore Group) www.stevenalepa.com Steve Nalepa - Electronic musician, VJ, multimedia event producer, art book publisher, paranormal news researcher and mad scientist collector, Nalepa wears many hats, but his first love is music. Armed with his analog synths, Ableton Live and Reason, Nalepa crafts songs by fusing together deep dub bass, glitchy breaks, bioacoustic atmospheres and beautiful Rhodes melodies. He has worked with Bill Laswell, Pharoah Sanders, George Clinton and Lili Haydn to name a few. With his partners, he runs a biweekly multimedia lounge in Los Angeles called Synapse, which features live electronic music acts from around the globe and realtime visuals by pioneers in the field. Biomorphica (Terpsichore Group) www.biomorphica.com VJ and 3D animator Thomas Williams aka Biomorphica creates surreal animations with custom crafted video feedback software applications that he developed himself. Co-founder of the VJ collective UV99, they collaborated in a live/work space and performed as VJs for countless shows, including P Funk All stars, Goldie, LTJ Bukem, and a tour with Crystal Method. During this time he also freelanced at several production studios, including Razorfish, Curve, and Dimensional Studios, creating animation for TV and real time 3D. Thomas is based in Los Angeles and is Synapse's resident VJ. ---------------------------------------- ------ End of Forwarded Message
