The military has found plenty of practical applications for sound. Its called "psychotronic warfare" and its been used pretty extensively. Gulf War I is a good example, the assault on the Davidian Compound in Waco is another. Most recently, rebels in Georgia blasted the Russian embassy with a 24 hour-a-day assault of noises and light.
