Actually, I'm a former US Marine Computer Operator with a NATO Secret
clearance that worked in a tactical weapons and radar tracking facility.
Not that that has any bearing on the matter, it's a simple matter of
physics, amplitude and frequency, and beyond that, the act of "closing a
window" won't stop a low cycle hum that has enough power and proper
alignment to disturb the "frequency" of a human body.
I'm sure we can expect a "mythbusters" episode on this one soon, heh.
There are plenty of articles on the internet on experimenting with low
frequency hums, and their intentions... even some quick tricks you can do
with programs as simple as the original wavelab, keep a calculator handy,
heh (although some don't work on consumer grade speaker systems as theyre
designed to block out "malignant" low frequencies).
