I was gonna say - I was looking for chatter on Chris Douglas (OST,
Dalglish, etc) and found a fairly healthy thread on WATMM. When I was on
facebook there's definitely lots of youtube link posting - nothing wrong
with that but not exactly chatter/conversation. More "sick tune!" and "+++"
lol.
I also think that the average fan of music like this at this point is also
a practitioner of some sort - producing, djing, radio showing - so a fan
will engage in this stuff by participating in music making/curating rather
than shooting off emails/posting. Plus if you're participating as a
*creator* (shudders) there's less of an impulse to take a critical
approach, which seems central to a good chat.
Also this music is pretty familiar at this point - - I can't think of many
super unique IDM releases that have been impactful enough for there to be
strong or divisive opinions formed. Plus the economy of streaming means
ppl are releasing more and more so a single release (a focal point of
conversation at one point) are less of an event. I dunno - just some stray
thoughts.
